What causes wet rot?
Wet rot develops when timber remains exposed to excessive moisture for a prolonged period of time.
Unlike dry timber, consistently damp wood creates the conditions in which wood-decaying fungi can develop. This gradually breaks down the timber, reducing its strength and potentially affecting floors, joists, roof timbers and other parts of the property.
Common causes include leaking plumbing, damaged roofs, defective guttering, penetrating damp, poor external drainage and inadequate ventilation.
