What causes damp in a property?
There isn’t one single cause of damp, which is why an accurate diagnosis is so important.
Moisture can enter or build up within a property for several reasons, including rising damp, penetrating damp, defective external finishes, plumbing leaks, poor ventilation and condensation.
Different causes require different solutions. Installing a damp proof course, for example, won't resolve a condensation problem. Likewise, treating visible mould without addressing excess moisture is unlikely to provide a lasting solution.
